What Happens When Your Child Joins Sheffield Springs Academy

Transferring from primary school to secondary school is a huge event in a child’s life, one which can be exciting and daunting in equal measure.

We believe that by starting secondary education slightly earlier, we can give every child the best possible start and that their progress and attainment will benefit. By getting to know the children before the summer holidays we will be able to ensure that they feel better supported and happier when making the step up from Primary School. The ‘Early Risers’ programme enables them to meet their teachers, new peers and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.

Although we were not able to run our usual three week ‘Early Risers’ programme this year, we were able to turn it into a virtual event with a series of online events to make sure that pupils got to know their new teachers and the other staff who are looking after them. We thought very carefully about how we could best support pupils during the national lockdown and the weeks and months leading up to their September start date. There were games and interactive online sessions to ensure that pupils familiarised themselves with staff and surroundings and felt well prepared and comfortable in their new surroundings for when they finally arrived at Sheffield Springs.

Please feel free to explore our Virtual Early Risers site to see how we supported pupils before they arrived at Sheffield Springs Academy.
