Welcome from our Headteacher

I would personally like to welcome you to Sheffield Springs Academy. I really enjoyed meeting and showing families our wonderful school on Saturday 2nd October. The day was an opportunity for students in Years 5 and 6 and their families who are considering applying for a place at Sheffield Springs Academy to visit us, meet our staff, students and tour our building.

At Sheffield Springs Academy, we proudly focus on excellent learning and developing an education with character. For us, this means a curriculum offer that goes beyond the classroom and gives students the experiences and skill set to contribute to society.

Our Open Days in the past have been hugely popular and have enabled parents to make an informed decision about their child's secondary education. In addition to this, I offer every parent the opportunity to come and look around school during a school day. This way you will get to experience lessons and get a feel for the school on a normal school day. Should you wish to take me up on this offer please click here or call school on 0114 2392631 and ask for my PA Sianne Wilson.

I understand what an important decision it is when choosing your child's secondary school place. I hope that our Open day and our virtual open day will reassure you that they can learn and flourish at Sheffield Springs Academy.

Thank you

Mark Shipman

What Happens When Your Child Joins Sheffield Springs Academy

Transferring from primary school to secondary school is a huge event in a child’s life, one which can be exciting and daunting in equal measure.

We believe that by starting secondary education slightly earlier, we can give every child the best possible start and that their progress and attainment will benefit. By getting to know the children before the summer holidays we will be able to ensure that they feel better supported and happier when making the step up from Primary School. The ‘Early Risers’ programme enables them to meet their teachers, new peers and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.

Although we were not able to run our usual three week ‘Early Risers’ programme this year, we were able to turn it into a virtual event with a series of online events to make sure that pupils got to know their new teachers and the other staff who are looking after them. We thought very carefully about how we could best support pupils during the national lockdown and the weeks and months leading up to their September start date. There were games and interactive online sessions to ensure that pupils familiarised themselves with staff and surroundings and felt well prepared and comfortable in their new surroundings for when they finally arrived at Sheffield Springs.

Please feel free to explore our Virtual Early Risers site to see how we supported pupils before they arrived at Sheffield Springs Academy.
