Student Leadership

The Springs Promise - 8) Develop leadership and character through student leadership opportunities.

When given the opportunity, young people can have a profound impact on their school. They can also help develop the tools needed for success outside of the classroom, gaining communication and organisation skills, teamwork and an understanding of other people's points of view, backgrounds and needs.

We encourage all students to take on roles in our school community and believe this is vital to developing our core values.

Respect • Excellence • Ambition • Pride

We are passionate about ensuring that your child has access to the best opportunities which will help them achieve. The development of a student leadership team provides these opportunities for pupils to develop the characteristics of a successful person and improves academic success, opening doors to their future. Our school community can work together to ensure that all students reach their full potential in their academic and personal development.
The Student Leadership can promote academic achievements of all students, regardless of ability, which can increase motivation, resilience and confidence. It can ensure that all students feel safe and welcome. It can also be a vital channel for providing feedback on 'school life'; for teaching and learning, wellbeing, homework and much more. It opens the opportunity for students to approach their peers, rather than directly with a member of staff so they feel more comfortable expressing their honest opinions.

We believe that students should be given a wide range of opportunities to develop and practise leadership skills in preparation for life beyond school, thus supporting the school’s vision for inclusive leadership that generates a culture of shared responsibility and pride for staff and students.

Aims of our Student Leadership Programme

• To give the student body a collective Voice.
• To provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through a variety of inspiring, challenging initiatives which impact positively on learning, teaching and well-being for both students and staff.
• To empower students to work in partnership with staff towards our shared vision.
• To prepare students for their future by achieving personal and professional excellence in life after formal education.

The range of leadership opportunities that we offer gives our student body their Voice and the confidence to help them prepare them for post 16 life.
We have many students who are keen to be involved in the Student Leadership Programme and who wear their special ties and badges with pride which identify them to all students in school.

Subject ambassadors are nominated by teachers; however, the rest of the leadership roles students have applied and been through an interview process to show why they are the best candidate for the role. The Student Voice is made up of student leaders from each year group who then gather feedback from their peers to give a more whole-school view. The Student Voice supports the Head Boys & Girls and works with students and staff across a range of different areas including Diversity and Wellbeing, Teaching and learning supporting our school and wider community and charity work.

The Head Boys & Girls will meet regularly to discuss any issues or announcements which may have arisen from the student body and these, in turn, will be reported on to the Head Teacher and SLT at regular meetings. Once receiving actions on the feedback collected, they present this to their peers through assemblies.

The leadership is student-centred allowing pupils to learn to work together to play a positive role within our school community.
