MEET THE INDUSTRY WITH INTO FILM FILMCLUB

VISIT FROM ADEYEMI MICHAEL – DOCUMENTARY FILM MAKER

Yemi graduated from the National Film and Television school in London and his graduation final documentary has done exceptional well in all the festivals around the world including the prestigious Sheffield Doc Fest.

Yemi attended a Y13 Creative media class for a chat and to show his film shorts, he then took part in a question and answer session with the students. Yemi also attended a Y7 English class to talk about what makes a good story and how to develop it into something more.

All the students that took part thoroughly enjoyed listening to Yemi and interacting with a question and answer chat. Yemi was both informative and inspirational talking about where he grew up on a london housing estate and relating his work to his own personal circumstances and the people around him.  It gave students an insight into how to achieve their ambitions and look at how the right choices can help bring a positive outcome.  It did also show that the wrong choices could sometimes be devastating.

BiG Challenge Success

As the first stage of the BiG Challenge draws to a close, participating teams are preparing their final reports ready for submission. The teams took the chance to make some final sales during the trade fayre held on Tuesday 11th during lunchtime and two of our teams sold out completely at the event. Out of the original 10 teams, four have made it through to the end of the competition: Recipes Worldwide, Sweet Treats, Green fingers and Jarful.  All of these teams have produced really good products and made a profit.

We were visited by Nathan Delves, Recycling and Innovations director from Veolia Sheffield and Liz Yoxall from BiG challenge who viewed the stalls and gave the students some feedback on their business and completing their final report. Nathan enjoyed the event immensely and offered to coach the teams further should the make it through to the final stages of the competition.

Y11 Football Success!

On Tuesday 10th February 2015 we hosted the U16 Girls City Futsal Tournament.  We played Westfield in the first game where the girls struggled initially with pace but gradually got into the game.  We were 4-0 down at half time.  Following a team talk the girls went back out ready to go and managed a 0-0 draw in the second half.  Unfortunately after a little waiting around Park academy never turned up to play.   The girls were a credit to the school, they showed great independence organising the team and themselves and hopefully they will go on to get a win.

Player of the game was Katie as she kept the score line closer than it could have been, but congratulations to all the team.

A big thank you to all the Y11’s that came to support after session 6 as this created a great atmosphere and showed Springs in a great light.

Y8's March On!

On Monday 19th January 2015 our Y8’s faced Handsworth Grange in a league fixture.  Full of confidence from the tournament last week they set off to an 8-0 lead in the first third.  We mixed the team around and set ourselves a defensive target not to let them score.  They achieved this target and carried on scoring to win 16-0. We are now top of the league and chasing promotion to a full time position in the A league.

A massive congratulations to Nkosi, Holly and Eliza who played new positions very successfully and to Georgia who got voted player of the game by Handsworth.

Congratulations team!
