Y8 Success

On Tuesday the Y8 netball team made their final trip of the season to Leeds, apart from the huge hail stones it was a great day and commented on by a number of staff how polite our students were.

We played several games in our pool some of the better wins was that we beat John Smeaton Acdemy 10 -0 and then came Park Academy, we dug very deep and beat them 4 – 0 to reach the Semi Finals.  We set off slowly against William Hulme Grammar school going 2 – 0 down, after several attempts we scored our first goal but unfortunately ran out of time and lost 2-1.  We were 3rd out of the Northern and Central UL academies.

This result backs up the amazing season the Y8 netball team have had.  We got confirmation through at the start of the week they have won the league and been promoted to the A League, as well as the big success they have had at both city tournaments.

Congratulations team on Tuesdays success but also on the season as a whole, in my opinion the most successful, hardworking netball team we have had in the last 10 years.

A big thank you also to Mrs Jackson for being our faithful supporter and driver for the season.

There's no place like home...

Throughout this week, the academy has welcomed over 600 members of our community to watch this year's production of Wizard of Oz. We are incredibly proud of all of our students who have worked extremely hard and with dedication and enthusiasm to bring the production together. A special thanks is given to the Y13 performing arts students who have contributed extensively to the direction and choreography. We are grateful to staff, students and members of the community who have watched the production and therefore supported our performers and technical crew.

Red Nose Day Fair!!!

Sheffield Springs Academy’s fund raising team had great fun planning and running a Red Nose Day fair. The team stayed behind on Thursday evening to decorate cookies, to be sold alongside fairy cakes, decorated by Mrs Taff’s child care class, and muffins donated by our catering staff.  Other stalls included: Name the Teddy and Guess The Number of Sweets in The Tub. The teddy was won by a year 8 student and is now named Barry. One of our teachers, Mrs Jackson, won the ‘Guess The Number of Sweets in The Tub’ by guessing spot on with 417 sweets!  Students were also able to show off their painted faces – very creatively done by our Performing Arts department – in our photo booth.

Well done to all involved and thank you to everyone for their support, and of course, their money.

Over £239 was raised by everyone’s efforts.
