During their first year at Sheffield Springs Academy year 7 students were asked to enter a writing competition run by young writers. As part of their English lesson, students were asked to write a 100 word story based around a fairy tale. We had many good stories which were entered into the competition and we were delighted when two of our year 7 students, Ellie Moult and Charlie Vaughan, were told that they were going to be published in the Winner’s book, Grim Tales – Across The UK.
As a celebration, the girls were presented with their copy of the published book during assembly. They were also asked to sign the library’s copy of the book, for posterity; just like real authors!
Below are the winning words from our students.
Elsa – by Ellie Moult
There was a girl called Elsa and she was born with ice powers. When she got older her powers got stronger. She eventually became queen. The whole village knew that she had ice powers and everybody was afraid.
The next day, she accidentally struck her sister and she was frozen for the rest of her life. Elsa was so ashamed of herself because she never saw her sister again. People said that she needed to get locked up until she could control her powers. But unfortunately, she couldn’t control her powers so she was in prison a long time.
Cinderella’s Nightmare – by Charlie Vaughan
Cinderella heard a bang, she walked out of her room and turned a corner. There, stood next to her grandmother’s painting, was a shadow of something very unusual. As she walked closer, the shadow got closer. Every step she took, sweat would drip from her face. As she took two more steps, she was stopped. It was almost like there was a glass shield protecting the picture. As much as she tried getting past, it was no use. She was not getting to the picture. As she looked forward she noticed the shadow was exactly the replica of her grandmother.
