A Night at the Musicals

On Tuesday 8th March and Wednesday 9th March 2016, 30 students from Y7 to Y13 took part in this year’s production of ‘A Night at the musicals.’ The production was a huge success and welcomed many members of our community in as audience members. Three of our local primary schools were also treated to a preview performance on Monday 7th March. The performing arts team would like to thank all students involved for their hard work, commitment and effort and congratulate them on their achievements. We are looking forward to next year already!

In Step!

Sheffield Springs Academy's cheerleaders danced their way to the title of runner-up at last week’s South Yorkshire finals.

The Year 9 team earned their place at the finals after taking top spot at the Key Stage 3 foundation category, competing against other Sheffield schools including Tapton and Notre Dame.

And on Wednesday (9th March), the academy team made their mark again, taking second place at the South Yorkshire finals, held at EIS Sheffield – the country’s largest multi-sports training centre.

Sheffield Springs Academy Principal Lee Morritt said:

“This is a fantastic result for the girls and a credit to their hard work and determination.”

Snooker Competition

On Tuesday the girls played in a snooker competition, to promote Ladies Day in World Snooker and International Women’s Day.  We had several delegates from World Snooker visit us including the Sports Development Officer and the sponsor for Cue Zone into Schools project.

There were some winners on the day, Lacie-Lou Dodsworth who won the singles competition, Amy Herret won the 6 ball challenge (beating Miss Eales!) and Louise Grant won the 60 second challenge.

Y9 Girls Netball Team

A massive congratulations to the Y9 Girls Netball team.  We competed last night in a tournament with Sheffield’s elite teams.

The girls started quickly and some of the great results they achieved were a 1-1 Draw with Tapton, a 4-2 win against Newfield and probably the result we were most excited about was Sheffield High School beat us 4-3, this result shows how far the girls have come over this season as the High school beat us 13 – 0 last year.

Congratulations

Y13 Performing Arts Group

Y13 completed a site specific performance at Graves Art Gallery on Wednesday 24th February. It was very well received by a large number of spectators who had visited the gallery that afternoon.

Well Done.

U12 Netball Team

The U12 netball team had a fixture against Westfield last night. The girls played really well and took an early lead thanks to some brilliant shooting from Paige. At the half way point the girls hard work was paying off seeing them winning 3-0. However, in the third quarter we conceded to early goals as a result of some poor defending. The calls pulled themselves together for the final quarter and won the game 5-2.

They really developed their level of skill and knowledge of the game throughout the match.

Congratulations Team

Sheffield Springs Academy joins Little Herd

During December, on both our website and in the local paper (Sheffield Star), we proudly publicised our involvement with the Children’s Hospital charity Herd of Sheffield event.  This means that Sheffield Springs Academy will adopt, sponsor and decorate a 73cm tall elephant sculpture.  The Sheffield Springs fundraising team have already been busy holding fundraising events, which include cake sales and Christmas jumper day, towards raising our sponsor money of £500. Our next fund raising event is being held on Friday 11th March which will include an Easter raffle with chocolate donated by Tesco’s at Abbey dale Road, Sheffield.

We have now taken delivery of our member of the ‘little herd’: currently our little elephant is only known as LH39, but after an in school competition to name the elephant, we hope to have a name for our herd member very soon.

Between now and the middle of May, members of Mr Howard’s D & T group will design and decorate our elephant, ready for the start of the trail in June.  Updates will be posted on both our website and via twitter.

During the summer, our elephant, together with the rest of their herd - designed and decorated by businesses and other schools from the Sheffield area - will be displayed throughout Sheffield in high profile locations.
