Dear Parents and Carers

Dates for your Diary

Friday 26th June 2015 – INSET day – Academy closed to students.

Y10 Enrichment

Y10 students will take part in enrichment/work experience Monday 6th July until Thursday 16th July 2015.  Students should attend the Academy in full uniform on Friday 17th July.

Early Risers

On Monday 29th June we welcome Y 6 students to the Academy.  They will begin the “early riser” transition programme and will remain with us until Friday 17th July. This will be a valuable experience for them to develop relationships with staff and students and understand our expectations prior to starting Y7 in September.  It is the first time we have undertaken a programme such as this and we are confident the school community will make our Y 6 students feel welcome.

Also on Monday 29th June at 6pm we will be holding our Y6 Learning Journey Evening for parents. This will provide an opportunity for us to give  key  information about the Academy, our expectations and provide a forum for us to answer any questions parents may have.  If you have a child joining us in Y7 from September please attend.

Monday evening we went to Handsworth for the U12 mixed rounders tournament. Unfortunately just as we started to field against Ecclesfield the heavens opened.  We managed to play 15 balls before the tournament had to be abandoned.  It was however commented on, how well our students persisted with the fielding and stopped Ecclesfield scoring even in the small amount of time played.  We will hopefully bring you another update when they have rescheduled to play again.

The Academy was delighted to host staff, students and parents from Gleadless Primary School for their excellent summer production.

Parent Questionnaire

One of our teachers (Miss Dobson) is conducting some research with the University of Manchester about how the Academy communicates with parents.  Miss Dobson would like to invite all parents to take part in this questionnaire, which is anonymous and will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.  It is hoped that this research will allow the Academy to further improve its communication with parents.  The link to the questionnaire can be found by visiting the following website address:  many thanks in advance.
