Principal's Letter - Friday 23rd January 2015

Dear Parents and Carers

By way of reminder, should we need to close the Academy or make any amendments to the academic day due to bad weather, this information will be displayed on both the Academy and Sheffield City Council websites, broadcast on Hallam FM and a text message will be sent to the person listed as number one priority contact.  In order to ensure the above process can run smoothly, please contact the Main Office if you have changed your mobile phone number.

We are concerned that some of our students are coming to school without a suitable warm, waterproof coat.  We would welcome your support in ensuring that children dress appropriately for their journey.

Year 11 Information

As you are aware, the Y11 parents evening will now take place on Wednesday 4th February 2015, from 4.00pm to 6.30pm.  Appointments made by students should still stand, however, students should check appointments with their subject teachers.

Y11 will be sitting pre-public examinations week commencing 23rd February 2014 in readiness for the final examination in the summer.  This gives just 15 school days before they start.  Preparation should include regular attendance at session 6 every Monday, Thursday and Friday as well as holiday sessions during February half term.

Year 9 Information

Y9 parents evening will take place on Thursday 29th January.   Parents will also be able to schedule a meeting during this event to discuss their son/daughter’s guided pathway.

Food Bank

Many thanks to the parents/carers who have sent in items for the Academy food bank. We are still in need of tinned and dried food items and welcome any donation.  Students can deliver items to the Academy shop during opening times (before school, break and at lunch time).   Any families wishing to use the food bank can do so through a referral from the Academy Social Worker, Mrs Gowling (member Senior Leadership Team), Social Care, MAST, GP or community leader.

On Monday night our Y8 Netball Team faced Handsworth Grange in a league fixture.  Full of confidence from the tournament last week they set off to an 8-0 lead in the first third.  We mixed the team around and set ourselves a defensive target not to let them score.  They achieved this target and carried on scoring to win 16-0. We are now top of the league and chasing promotion to a full time position in the A league.  Well done to Nkosi Dube, Holly Akers, Georgia Evans, Alix Taylor, Eliza Pearson, Courtney Penney, Saraya Goring and Sophie Fiddell.
