Over £1700 raised for Charity!!!

Fund raising at Sheffield Springs Academy is met with enthusiasm and whole school support.  We started early this year: taking part in the nation’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, selling poppies for Remembrance Day and holding a charity event for Children in Need.

Along with raising money for known charities, we also have a dedicated fund raising team who work really hard to raise money for the Academy’s 3 chosen charities each year.  This year the students voted to take part in the Sheffield Children’s charity, in partnership with Wild in Art, to raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital along with Water Aid and Teenage Cancer Trust.  The students worked in their own time, very often through breaks and lunch, to do book art folding, cooking and organising forthcoming events, whether it be a cake bake or more involved charity stall.  These events are usually popular with other students and only crumbs are left at the end of the sale! Thank you also to Mr Innes’s and Ms Beard’s form – 9 Ecclesfield- who have been collecting loose change all year and have amassed over £70 for our chosen charities.

At the end of May a group of boys came together to raise money for a common goal – Cancer Research.  Led by year 9 student Mason Brown, and using rowing machines, the boys rowed the equivalent distance between Dover and Calais.  Working in a relay system they hoped to cover the distance – 20.8 miles – in just 1 hour.  It was touch and go for a short while, but the boys managed to dock in Calais harbour just as the bell signalled the end of break. They managed to raise a very respectable £405.94.

£1706.51 being collected for charities.  Along with thanking all students and staff involved with charity events, we would like to thank Tesco and Morrisons for their donations of Easter eggs and Christmas chocolate for our raffles.
