Rafting and Revision

Residential to help students prepare for exams

A group of Year 11 students mixed rafting with revision when they were put through their paces on a weekend residential.

The residential was organised by the Academy to help students fulfil their potential and prepare for their exams. The event took place from 20th to 22nd October at the Conway Centre in Wales, with 102 Year 11’s taking part in a range of activities and workshops, aimed at helping them develop their knowledge and understanding in English, maths and science.

During the weekend, the group took part in:

  • Raft building, mountain biking and climbing
  • English, maths and science workshops
  • Night lining (blindfolded assault course)

And of course, no residential would be complete without the traditional songs around the campfire and marshmallows!

The trip also earned the thumbs up from students and parents alike, with a number of parents taking the time to write to the academy to formally thank staff for giving up their time, whilst student Maria commented that the night lining exercise was ‘the best thing I’ve ever done!’

Head of School Mark Shipman, who took part in the residential said:

“This is an important time for our Year 11 students and the residential was the ideal way to help them learn new skills, supporting their revision and development in general."
