Y7 Achievement!

The Y7 girls played against Handsworth Grange last night, although they lost they played some very good football which they will hopefully take into their next match and turn into a win.  The girls were a credit to the school and Handsworth voted Lucia as our player of the game.

Congratulations Y7!

Springs Success!

Sheffield Springs had a difficult trip to Derby on a cold day, but the team were very resilient and played some of the best football I have ever seen them produce.

Tommy Donbavand, author of the popular children’s series ‘Scream Street’, comes to our Academy!

Tommy Donbavand made our students scream – with laughter - when he visited the Academy on Tuesday 14th January.  During his character creations workshops he worked with all our year 7 students, showing them how to create and give life to a fictional character.  They then had the chance to create their own character and find ways that each character within the working group could interact together.

After the workshops, all year 7 students were gathered together for a question and answer session in the main hall.  This session started out with Tommy talking about how he became a writer and entertained the students with stories of his childhood and the antics he got up to during this period of his life.  Some, like the time he set fire to their tent on a family camping holiday, had to be preceded with the words “Don’t try this at home…”

Speaking to the students after the event, they really enjoyed the sessions with Tommy and, of course, half now aspire to be writers.

Thank you Tommy for an excellent visit!
