Y8 Netball Victory!

Congratulations to the Year 8 Netball who won their first victory of the season on Tuesday 7th October 2014.  The Academy played against Parkwood in some horrendous conditions, rain wind and more rain!  They came out victors, 4-1, with goals from Eliza and Holly.

Special congratulations to Saraya who was voted player of the game.

A big thanks to Mrs Jackson for driving the bus, even if she did support us from the bus in the dry!

Fundraising at Sheffield Springs Academy

As part of our SMSC programme at Sheffield Springs Academy, we ask our year 7 students to have an acting role in fundraising.  Apart from whole school activities, such as Children in Need, poppy day and other national charity events, our year 7 students choose 3 charities: one local, one national and one international.  Although we still have to choose our national and international charities for this year, our students have chosen St Luke’s Hospice as our local charity.  We are very fortunate that a representative from St Luke’s has agreed to work with us in our fund raising activities.

Last year the Academy raised a respectable £1,300 in total for all charity events. This included our chosen charities: Sheffield Children’s Hospital, MacMillan cancer care and Oxfam, all receiving cheques for £145.

We start our fundraising this year with a cake sale on Friday 26th September in support of Macmillan Cancer Care.  Upcoming events will be advertised on our website and in our weekly newsletter.

Outward Bound Week!

On Monday, 29th of September, 30 Y9 students went for a week`s outward bound activities at the Outward Bound Centre, in Aberdovey, Wales. The visit was sponsored by the H.S.B.C Bank, who also sent along 4 volunteers to help with the visit.

The week was about students enjoying themselves but also doing something that perhaps they had never done before and pushing the limits of what they thought they could achieve.

The highlights of the experience were the run and dip on the first day, jumping off the jetty into the sea at Aberdovey and going on an overnight camp, but having to walk to and from the camp site, which for some was on the top of a mountain.

Our students also had to work with and enjoy the experience with students from Thrybergh Secondary School, Rotherham, who also attended the week.

Two students, Bailey Power and Sam Morley were rewarded for their efforts during the week with a free week`s stay at the centre worth £800 which they can take up before they reach 16 years of age.

All students got a great deal out the week and hopefully this may inspire them to achieve the best that they can in their lives....

Macmillan Cake Sale

Our year 7 fundraising group got off to a flying start with their first event.  All over the country people were taking part in the Macmillan cancer support coffee mornings. Our students, not wanting to be left out, decided to put on a cake sale.  We asked staff to donate buns/cakes for our fundraisers to sell during lunch on Friday 26th September and we raised a fantastic £77.00.  We would like to thank all the staff and the ladies in the canteen who donated buns/cakes and of course the staff and students who bought the products.  Well done team!
