News and Events at Sheffield Springs Academy

Y8 Netball Success!

We played against Meadowhead last night (Tuesday 16th December 2014) outside in poor conditions under floodlights (due to exam desks in their sportshall).  The girls played some of the best netball they have played has a team since Y7.  They ended up with another victory, 5-2.

Saraya again got voted player of the game by Meadowhead, Jade also had an outstanding game.

Well done team!

Sainsbury's School Games

Sheffield Springs Academy has just received the Sainsbury`s School Games Bronze Award for 2013 / 2014.  The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Springs was one of a handful of schools and Academies that was visited to ensure that our application was correct. A number of aspects were praised, including the range of sports that students can get involved in. Hopefully, the 2014 / 2015 application will result in the Silver Award...

Links School Sports Partnership Supporting Local Primary Schools

Over the current term, Springs Academy has worked closely with the Links School Sports Partnership and the local primary schools to ensure as many pupils as possible have access to the excellent sports facilities at Springs Academy.

Children from Year 5 at Gleadless Primary school have used the climbing wall and bike track as part of their enrichment programme of activities.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from Bankwood, Valley Park, Gleadless, Norfolk, Prince Edwards and Arbourthorne have used the sports hall to take part in a number of sports hall athletics events, with the top performing school representing our cluster of schools in the Sheffield finals in December.

A number of football competitions for Y5 and 6 boys and girls have been held with pupils from Carfield, Anns Grove, Wybourn, Valley Park, Bankwood, Prince Edwards, Norfolk and Manor Lodge all taking part. Wybourn Primary are also using Springs as their home pitch for all the league matches that they have to play with teams from across Sheffield.

Prince Edward`s pupils are taking part in a series of trampolining lessons being run by Miss Sleaford and all sixty of their Y2`s came over to Springs for a min sports festival in October.

A number of Springs Academy pupils have helped to officiate and volunteered at all these events. All help has been greatly appreciated by everyone.
