Sheffield Springs Academy’s fundraising students are part of the ‘Herd of Sheffield,’ after pledging to support a local children’s hospital.
The Wild in Art event brought to you by The Children’s Hospital Charity, is a part of a new initiative whereby
schools are being invited to adopt, sponsor and decorate their own 73cm tall elephant sculptures. They will go on display at various locations across the city in the summer, with monies raised going towards Sheffield Children’s Hospital to help support:
· The transformation of wards to provide private rooms with space for parents to stay with their child
· The creation of a brand new outpatients department, so that children from all over the world can be treated in comfort
· The provision of dedicated space to play, including a giant play tower which will turn waiting into a game,
The schools’ elephant sculpture exhibition, called Little Herd, is being run as part of Herd of SheffieldSchools taking part in Little Herd are asked to fundraise £500 toward the cost of their smaller elephant, which they will be able to keep at the end.
At Sheffield Springs Academy, plans to support the fundraising are already well underway, with the Hurlfield Road-based school’s dedicated charity group holding a variety of activities over the coming months. The fun starts on Wednesday 9th December with a seasonal sale of cookies, cakes, sweets and specially made paper mice and Christmas trees, followed by a Christmas clothing day on the 18th December.
Future fundraising activities held by the academy in support of Little Herd also include a Valentine’s themed event in February and a sponsored run in the summer.

“We’ve actually had a dedicated fundraising group for the last few years and in the past 12 months alone, our students have raised over £1,700 for local, national and international charities. Now we’ve got our sights set on supporting The Children’s Hospital Charity and becoming part of the Little Herd’”
Cheryl Davidson, Little Herd project manager, said: “We are delighted that Sheffield Springs Academy have joined the Little Herd stampede, and will be fundraising to help bring this exciting initiative to the school. They are in good company, with more than 50 schools across the region already signed up. We can’t wait to see the designs they come up with!”
