Principal’s Letter - Friday 26th September 2014

Dear Parents and Carers

INSET Day: Friday 3rd October (the Academy will be closed to all students)

Attendance has been the theme for school assemblies this week. In all assemblies we have congratulated those students whose attendance is above 95% and given special recognition to those who have 100% attendance of which there are many.  As parents/carers please support your child in ensuring they arrive for school every day no later than 8.30am.

Following the success of last year’s event we will be holding a ‘Preparing for Success’ evening for the students and parents of Y11. The event will take place on Thursday 9th October from 6pm until 7pm, please keep this date free in your diary.  A letter detailing the exact purpose and schedule for the evening will be sent out nearer the time and will contain important information as to how we can work together to support our students at this crucial time.

The football season is now well underway with the Y8, Y9 and Y10 teams all playing this week:

Y8 had an encouraging start playing a cup game against Hemsworth and despite being 5-1 down brought the game back to 5-4 to set up a nail biting last 5 minutes, unfortunately we couldn’t find the goal to take the game into extra time.  In the second fixture we played Meadowhead a team we lost 7-0 to last season, despite taking a 1 - 0 lead we couldn’t hold on and lost 3-1.  Nevertheless, well done to the team; Corbin Wild, Luke O’Brien, Michael Oladipupo, Sam Piper, Ryan Turner, Samir Arrian, Archie Revill, Cameron Walker, Lawson Gurnhill, Ombeni Munyampundu, Liam Fishpool, Cory Pease and Matthew Brown.

The Y9 boy’s football team started their season in excellent form with two good performances.  Last week they played at Park Academy in The United Learning Sheffield Shield Final and won 6-2.  This week they played at Wingfield Academy in Rotherham and won 10-2.  They have some greater challenges ahead with High Storrs the first Sheffield Schools League fixture next week and County and National Cup ties against King Edwards and Westfield to follow.

On Monday evening the Y10 team played in the Y10 Boy’s Football Cup with an impressive 4-2 win against Birkdale School.  We managed to beat a strong team despite having just 10 players, well done; Matthew Bell, Mitchell Wild, Sam Goodall, Asa Wilcox, Tyler Fiddler, Jack Charlesworth, Harrison Ross, Kyle Blake, Tyler Doman and Carl Riley.
