Dear Parents and Carers

Best in Everyone Awards
Each year United
Learning hold a “Best in Everyone” award ceremony to recognise some of the
finest achievements in academic success, sports, music, drama and services to
others. This year we are extremely proud
and honoured to confirm that out of almost 400 finalists our very own Georgia
Evans and Joseph Rusling have received this ultimate accolade from United Learning. As a result they have been invited to
Surbiton High School on 3rd July to collect their prize. Many congratulations.
Students and Illness
We feel it is important
to clarify expectations with regards to sending students home who are unwell
during the school day. We will only send
students home if we have spoken to parents and agreed that they can be
collected. Under no circumstances will
students be allowed to make their own way home if they are unwell. We are sure
you will understand that this is to ensure students remain safe and are
monitored during their period of illness. It is also important that if a child is unwell
they speak to someone in school in the first instance rather than call home immediately.
We have found that this can often cause
parents unnecessary worry. Staff at
school can assess student’s medical needs and then contact parents if required.
We would like to provide
you with a polite reminder that there is no legal obligation to
give parents notice of a detention. Therefore, parents will not normally be
informed of any detention that is of 30 minutes duration or less. Where
detentions are more than 30mins i.e. SLT detention, a text message will be sent
to inform parents. Detentions are part of the Academy sanction policy and are
Parental Focus Group
We are wanting to
establish a parental focus group that will meet during one evening next half
term. The aim of this group would be to work with and advise the school on how
it can engage parents, families and the local community. This is an important part of our development
as a school and we would appreciate your support one evening. The date will be
confirmed immediately after half term. If
you wish to be involved please leave your name and contact number at reception.
Y7 and Y8 Residential Trip
There is a PGL Outdoor
Activities PE residential visit to Osmington Bay, Weymouth leaving on the
morning of Friday 6th May 2016 and returning on the evening of Monday
9th May 2016. In the first
instance the visit is open to the current Y7s and Y8s, we have availability for
45 students at a cost of £165 (this will include all activities, food and
travel). As it is on the coast, students
will be taking part in a number of water sports, plus climbing and zip lines. Please discuss with your child and if interested,
letters are available for collection from the PE office. A member of the department is more than happy
to discuss the trip with you over the phone if you would prefer this.
