Principal’s Letter - Friday 10th July 2015

Dear Parents and Carers

Dates for Your Diary

Friday 17th July - Students in Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10 will be released early from the Academy.  They will be dismissed from 1:45pm.

As you will be aware we expect excellent attendance and punctuality from all our students. The target for every student is to aim to achieve 100%.  Our reason for this target and the relentless focus on this area of school life is due to the clear link between attendance to school and students making good progress with their learning.  Students will only learn and make progress if they come to school.  From September any student whose attendance is below 90% will be classed as a “persistent absentee” by the Department for Education.

Early Risers

This week has seen the second week of the early riser transition programme for Y6 students. It has been an incredibly busy week for all students with the highlight being sports and performing arts day on Wednesday. Students worked hard, participated with enthusiasm and produced work of outstanding quality. It has been an incredibly valuable experience for students so far and we hope that this continues for the final week of the academic year.

Y8 Success

We hosted the United Learning U13 Girls Rounders Tournament on Tuesday.  Our girls were a credit to the school and fought hard in some poor weather.  They showed some good batting skills and worked hard to field.  They were runners up to Accrington on the day.

Sports Presentation Evening: Tuesday 14th July

Students that have represented the Academy in sports fixtures this academic year have had a letter of invitation to attend this annual event. Please reply to Mr Law either by email or by returning the reply slip as soon as possible.

Fund Raising

To end a busy fundraising year we held a sponsored walk for our Y7 and Y8 students.  The students entered the event with enthusiasm and together they have raised in excess of £300.  This amount will be added to monies already raised.  Our chosen charities this year have been WWF, St Luke’s Hospice and the British Heart Foundation.  Along with raising money for our chosen charities, students of the Academy have also been busy raising money for known charity events such as MacMillan Cancer Cake Bake, Poppy Day, Marie Curie Daffodil March and Red Nose Day.  Our very own Mr Richardson ran the London Marathon to raise money for the food bank we have in school.  Over £1500.00 has been raised in total this year.

Well done to all students and staff involved in all activities.
