Dear Parents and Carers
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year and thank you for your contribution to the settled start we have successfully achieved following the festive break. We would also like to provide you with some key information for the term ahead:
Standards of uniform, attendance, punctuality and behaviour must be kept as high as possible at all times. Students should be attending on time and in full Academy uniform. To clarify plain black shoes and not trainers must be worn.
Students are being reminded during form time that preparation for learning is essential. This means they should have a pen, pencil, ruler, planner together with a suitable bag to carry these items around. We welcome your support to ensure that all our young people comply with these standards and expectations.
Rewards Activity Day
Prior to the Christmas break, a number of students from Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10 took part in a rewards activity day. Entitlement to participate was 95% attendance, less than 20 behaviour points and no late marks. Students enjoyed a day off timetable participating in activities such as dance, climbing, football, mountain biking, snooker, cinema experience and taekwondo. The Academy are hoping to run a similar event before the Easter break with similar criteria.
Should we need to close the Academy or make any amendments to the academic day due to bad weather, the person listed as number one priority contact will be informed via text message. This information will also be displayed on both the Academy and Sheffield City Council websites, tweeted and broadcast on Hallam FM. In order to ensure the above process can run smoothly, please contact the Main Office if you have changed your mobile phone number.

Teams continue to work hard on their BiG Challenge business and had a very busy few weeks in the run up to Christmas. Teams sold at a variety of events including the Time to Shine evening, the Performing Arts Showcase and the BiG Challenge trade Fair which involved four of our feeder primary schools, Arbourthorne, Prince Edwards, Gleadless and Norfolk. Our primary schools sent a team of students who traded a Christmas Craft product to our staff and students.
We have 7 teams preparing reports for final submission at the end of January and already we have been successful in the competition. The team ‘5 Leaf Clover’ have been awarded a prize in the XTRA2 Marketing and Media award which is an interim award in the BiG Challenge. They received a cash prize and attended the award ceremony at the offices of international corporate lawyers DLA Piper. There were 67 entries in total across Sheffield schools and 5 Leaf Clover were amongst a privileged group of 6 teams to receive an award.
Yours sincerely Yours sincerely
