Yorkshire Young Dancers

   Yorkshire Young Dancers Workshop
Sheffield Springs Academy 19th January 2010
By Aimee Hargreaves & Megan Osborne

On Tuesday 19th January we attended a Yorkshire Young Dancers workshop, in Contemporary Dance.

We took part in some excercises for 45 minutes, these exercises worked on our posture, balance and alignment.  We then did some travelling across the space with a range of leaps, jumps and runs.

After the first 45 minutes we copied a routine with the choreographer.  She then asked us to create a solo of 16 counts. After we finished our solo we had to get into groups and change at leatst one thing from the routine.

In our group there were two 6th form students, Rosie Wild and Emily Birks; there were also Ellie Wright and Tori Haigh from Y9.

We enjoyed doing the workshop and hope to be doing contemporary dance in the future by studying it further.

At the end of the workshop we got called back and invited to attend an open day, here at Springs Academy on 24th January.  We were over joyed to learn that we had been picked out of so many other students.

We thank the Dance dept for putting us through to do the workshop!
