Sheffield Springs Specialism

Since the academy’s inception in September 2006, we have been designated a specialist school in the performing arts with business and enterprise. This reflects the very hard work of all the students, staff and support from parents in these areas. We have achieved Arts Mark Silver and are looking forward to submitting our applications for Arts Mark Gold and the Warwick Award. We have recently established a new specialism room within school where students, staff parents and community groups come together to share and develop their ideas in the specialist areas.

We are developing our community programmes and are building partnerships with organisations such as the Victoria College of Music, Yorkshire Young Dancers (YYD), The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, and Sheffield Barbershop Harmony Quartet, Mercedes Benz and Davy Markham as well as many other local organisations. Our staff visit our feeder primary schools with whom we are developing joint projects in the performing arts.

The specialism has an important impact on the curriculum across the school where students develop skills in enterprise and creativity in all subject areas, enhancing their life skills and ability to compete in the modern world. We have an extensive programme of enrichment activities in both the performing arts and B & E which involves many of our students and community providers.
