A Welcome Message from Mr Damms - Assistant Principal and Head of Sixth Form

Thank you for visiting our website and the Sixth Form page.  Post-16 provision at Sheffield Springs Academy offers a broad choice of subjects and levels of study, from Level 1, to Level 2 and 3 BTECs, and “A” Levels.

Since its inception in 2007, we have expanded, with:

• Student numbers increasing
• More subjects offered
• Improving results, including BTEC Distinctions and A*/B grades at “A” Level
• Offers of university places for students increasing year on year, including the University of Sheffield
• A recently formed partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, which offers brilliant support for our students’ learning and progression, in addition to links with the University of Sheffield

The staff here are fully committed to bringing out “the best in everyone”, enabling students to achieve academic success so they can reach the crucial common goal – progression, whether that is moving to higher level study, gaining a place at university, or progressing to employment or training.  Support and guidance for learning are exceptional, with students also benefitting from the pastoral support of a personal tutor.

As a student in our Sixth Form, in addition to your timetabled study, you will follow an enrichment programme which will involve study skills and Functional Skills, as well as a range of other activities.  Enrichment is a very important aspect of Sixth Form, offering students opportunities to develop their personal and inter-personal qualities.

Here is a sample of what our students think about the Sixth Form at Sheffield Springs Academy, based on a recent survey:

• 96% said that teaching was good or better
• 98% felt they were making good progress on courses
• 90% said they enjoyed being a student in our Sixth Form
• 98% said they felt well-supported by their tutors
