Mathematics Homework
I wish to advise you of a change of policy regarding homework from the Mathematics department. In future the Mathematics department will mainly be operating a ‘paperless’ homework system whereby homework is placed online for students to access.
There are two different ways homework will be set in future. Firstly, each student has their own login and password to Mymaths. This website, www.mymaths.co.uk, is where homework is set online. The homework is instantly marked after completion and students can receive feedback on their performance. Furthermore, each piece of homework comes with an online lesson allowing students to follow the lesson before attempting to obtain the highest possible mark. Please note, students will need to know the school login and password before they access their own portal:
School Login: sheffspr
School Password: equals
The second way homework will be provided to students will be via the school’s VLE. This can be accessed via www.itslearning.com and choosing Sheffield Academy as the host. Students should then access their homework through the Maths course, their teacher’s folder, then the correct class folder. Each piece of homework will consist of a downloadable worksheet and a downloadable video clip. The video clips are designed to assist with homework and revision. The homework should be completed in a homework book or on a sheet of paper and will be marked by the class teacher.
There will also be a huge amount of revision materials for maths courses on the VLE, with all past GCSE exam papers available to download. Furthermore, you will also find the Edexcel GCSE Scheme of Work as well as numerous lessons on different Maths topics.
I understand that this change of policy could be an issue for those families who do not have access to the internet from home. To allow students to complete their online homework, the Maths department has launched a homework club on a Wednesday afternoon, 3pm to 4pm, where students will be able to access their homework via laptops in the Maths department. There is also the opportunity to access the internet via the school’s library any day at lunchtime or after school.
Maths homework will be set by the class teacher on a weekly basis but will alternate between mymaths online homework one week and VLE downloadable homework the next.
I’m sure you will appreciate the importance of homework as a tool to enable student to fulfil their potential and as a result, it is vital that homework is completed on a regular basis.
Please can I ask for your support in checking with your son/daughter to find out what homework they have from Maths each week? Please do not accept the answer, ‘none has been set’. If you are still unsure or wish to discuss your child’s maths work please feel free to contact the relevant class teacher.
By working together we can ensure your child leaves the Academy with the best possible maths education.
Yours sincerely
Mr N Burns
