- Confidence and self-esteem
- Creativity and thinking skills
- Communication skills
- Skills for job opportunities in the arts or business community, or to continue studying beyond 16 and through to University
Extra-curricular activities
Activities and interests outside lessons are enjoyable, but are also very important for the development of students. We encourage participation in as many activities as possible. A full programme of activities is offered to students.
Homework
Learning does not just take place in the classroom. Many tasks can only be carried out outside the classroom and students are encouraged to see learning as not just limited to school. This allows them to develop private study skills which are so important. It also allows parents and carers to see, take part in and support their children’s progress.
Every student is given homework tasks and at the beginning of each year, parents/carers are given their child’s homework programme.
As they progress in the academy, students are given longer tasks to complete over a period of time. They are assisted in devising a plan to carry out this work and set deadlines for completion of each stage.
Every student has a planner in which details of work are set and deadlines of work and comments on performance and progress are written for parents/carers to sign each week. In this way, their child’s progress can be continually monitored.
