Music

Music at Sheffield Springs Academy embraces the cultural and spiritual diversity of our pupils. The curriculum content lends itself to the a variety of styles in music, from Rock and Pop to Blues and Classical and World music. The advancement in technology has seen pupils produce creative and artistic pieces of work which demonstrate a strong combination of compositional, performing and appraising skills. The two classrooms within the department contain Imac computers containing a range of sequencing software; Reason, Logic, Sebelius, Garage Band as well as the full Adobe suite. The potential for innovation and creativity is starting to be harnessed by pupils at all levels. The department houses a professional 48 track recording studio, which has produced excellent ‘A’ Level and extended schools projects.

Key stage 3

In year 7 pupils are introduced to the building blocks and music and basic sequencing and performance skills. The performing arts department work collaboratively across music, dance and drama to ensure that artistic skills are transferable across the subject area.

Doing a Bronze Award means pupils will:
  •  Take part in an arts activity, anything from dance to creative writing to beat boxing
  • Take part in arts event of their choice
  • Find their arts hero or heroine, research their story, and discover how they got to where they are today
  • Share their skills by helping to run a workshop or by giving a demonstration to others

Pupils build a portfolio of idea and activities in their own personal style and format.  They might make a folder or sketchbook, a video diary or website.
