Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care (H&SC) is a small department with a staff of 1, the HoD, Hannah Marsden.  The department has been running for three years and has been a successful addition to the curriculum on offer at Springs.  We have a dedicated classroom for H&SC with a bank of 30 laptops and a printer.  The Classroom is also equipped with a state of the art interactive whiteboard and active expressions hand set.

On a more practical note we have a sink in the classroom which allows us to run practical and creative activities such as painting, collage and other therapeutic activities that are taught as part of the varied curriculum.

KS3 - We do not offer H&SC at KS3.

KS4 - curriculum
Edexcel BTEC First Diploma and Certificate in Health and Social Care.  this is a coursework based qualification awarded by Edexcel. www.edexcel.co.uk

Ks5 - curriculum
We are offering the Edexcel GCE AS level at Springs for the first time this Academic year.  We will be offering the A2 next year.

What can it lead to?  The GCE will gain you UCAS points that can be used to apply for a degree in any area.  It can also lead to employment in the Health and Social Care sector.

Last year our KS4 results were excellent with over 90% of students achieving a Pass - Distinction (the equivalent of C - A GCSE).  We have good links with local H&SC providers and offer visits and placements as part of the qualifications on offer.
