P.E
The PE department at Springs has 9 members of staff, Mr Joel - Department Head, Mrs Cross - Second in department/Head of girls, teacher - Mrs Green, teacher - Mr Law, teacher - Miss Sleaford, teacher -Miss Grant, teacher - Mr Hill, teacher - Mrs Morton and teaching assistant - Mr Roma. We offer a full and inclusive sports programme throughout lessons and with extra curricular clubs.
The subject is taught in state of the art facilities including a sports hall; playing fields with football, rugby and hockey pitches, turning into a 400m athletics track in the summer with long jump pits and throwing circles; and Mugga (multi-purpose) pitch marked out for football, netball and tennis. We also use the facilities of Springs Leisure Centre including a second sports hall, gym and swimming pool.
Everyone wears the same PE kit, it consists of;
- Navy Blue T-shirt/rugby shirt

We offer clubs to all abilities and ages in the school and run several sports teams.
For example:
Girls and Boys football (indoor and out), basketball, badminton, netball, rugby, rounders, athletics, tennis and cricket.

We also have specialists come in from a variety of sports, for example, Sheffield Sharks for basketball, a fencing coach and a boxing coach.

Core PE
At KS3 all pupils receive 2x one hour practical lessons. They are taught in single sex groups following the national curriculum guidelines.
Pupils follow a broad curriculum and take part in a wide range of activities over the three years
- rugby, football, hockey, netball, athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, fitness, gym, trampolining, problem solving, rounders, table tennis and tennis

PE is a core subject at KS4. All pupils receive 2x one hour practical lessons. They continue with sports learnt throughout KS3 and have other options of softball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, dance and walking.
Courses
Year 9 - 11
- BTEC First Diploma in Sport for those wishing to progress in the sports industry. This consists of 4 hours a week in which they must complete 6 units over the 3 years. This course is the equivalent of 4 GCSE's at grade A - C. Examples of the units are: The body in sport, Health and Safety and instructing exercise and fitness. Alongside this course you gain a first aid qualification. This course is 100% coursework based.

- GCSE PE is still an option through Core PE and Option time. This consists of participating in 4 different sports and undertaking a written exam on training the body, anatomy of the body and diet/drugs in sport.

- Other options available through the PE Dept. are the BTEC introductory Certificate in Sport and Leisure.

- All of the courses are accredited by Edexcel
|
KS5 Courses
- BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) for those wishing to go onto further education or a job in the sports industry. This consists of 15 hours teaching time a week with independent learning outside this. 18 units have to be complete over 2 years and it is 100% course work based. The course is the equivalent of 3 A Levels. Examples of the units are; The body in action, Sports Nutrition, Sports Development alongside 2 practical units, coaching units and an Outdoor and Adventure Activity unit.

- The BTEC National Diploma's proved a Springboard to a university Degree or Foundation Degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, or BTEC HNCs and HNDs, or to employment.

- From completion of this course we have had pupils go onto university to study teaching and youth sports. This year pupils have applied to Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Chester universities for a variety of sport courses.

- It also lends itself to work in the Sport and Leisure industry for example fitness instrutor, Sports Development Officer and Leisure Management.
|
- Also on offer is the BTEC First Diploma in Sport for those wishing to progress in the sports industry. This consists of 12 hours a week in which they must complete 6 units over the year. This course is the equivalent of 4 GCSE's at grade A - C.

- This course can lead to the BTEC National Diploma or onto vocational opportunities in the Sports and Leisure industry.
