Technology
Staff Include:
Full-time Mrs Bradley Assistant Principal and currently Head of DT (Food), Mrs Linley curretly Head of Year 8 (Product Design/Food), Ms Jaycock (Product Design), Ms Griffith (Product Design) and Part-time Mrs Lambert (Food). Some staff have roles outside the department or teach in other areas such as Art, Maths and Media.
KS3 curriculum is delivered to Year 7 and 8 in half-termly units on a rotation basis and focuses on Product Design, Food and Graphics. Projects are constantly reviewed and changed in content and sometimes name.
Current Food projects include; Basics, Healthy Eating, Cookie Design, Snack Time, Edible Casings and Bakery project in Y7/8 Food.
KS4 curriculum currently has two courses.
OCR Design and Technology Product Design GCSE
AQA Design and Technology Food Technology GCSE
In September 2010 KS4 course will be replaced with BTEC Certificates in Catering/2-D Design.
As this is a practical subject excellent attendance is vital for success as practical work cannot be done at home as it requires supervision for authenticity and specialist equipment.
KS5 curriculum - There is currently no curriculum offer at KS5
Exam Results
The department had small numbers of students taking GCSE in 2008/09.
Food 46.2% A*-C
Product Design 23.1% A*-C
In 2008/09 the area was the most popular option subject area with Y8 into Y9
