Sheffield Springs had a difficult trip to Derby on a cold day, but the team were very resilient and played some of the best football I have ever seen them produce.
The team played Doncaster Rovers and beat them 4 -2 with a hatrick from Ally Vaughan, then on to York City who we beat 3 – 1, our toughest competitors were Derby County who we lost 1 – 0 and then Chesterfield FC who we beat 2 – 0. Pushing us into the semi-finals where we met Notts County, unfortunately we lost 2-0 but held them at 1-0 until the last 2 mins. Notts County were the eventual winners beating Derby County 4-0, their coach commented how we had given them the toughest game of the day and we had the least goals scored against them by us, they’re average in the league rounds was 4.
All the goals came from Ally Vaughan and Leah Hartley with some fantastic linking play, but the player of the tournament for us was Reina Nascimento.
To put it into context how well the girls have played we competed in sector 4 of 4 of the North of England and within this sector over 100 teams competed and we came 3rd which was a huge achievement even more so as we were only one round away from Wembley.
