It was a challenging start to the year for a group of Year 9 students, who took part in an action packed residential in Wales.
Running from the 8th to the 12th January, the motivational trip was designed to test the students and encourage a growth mindset, giving them the opportunity to do things they had never done before.
Challenges facing the students included scaling a 12 foot wall, sailing a boat and undertaking a hike weighed down by fully laden kit bags, before wild camping in sub zero temperatures!
Their final task was also a chilly one, with the students having to go for a jog on the beach, before taking part in a ‘jetty jump,’ diving off the end of a pier into the freezing cold sea.
Commented Sheffield Springs Academy’s Head of School Mark Shipman:
“The aim of the residential was to encourage our students to challenge themselves, by taking part in activities they had never done before. It was also the ideal opportunity for them to develop their team working skills.”
