Principal’s Letter - Friday 6th June 2014

Dear Parents and Carers

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome back staff and students to the final half term of this academic year.  Attendance has been mainly positive and we would like to thank you for your continued support with ensuring your child attends school on time.

On Wednesday evening Maddie Linley, Bailey Power, Marcus Stoyles and Sam Morley qualified for the Sheffield City Finals in the Athletic Districts Heats with a fantastic performance. Maddie and Bailey eased into the city finals by winning the Y7 girl’s rounders ball throw competition and Y8 boys 200m respectively.  Marcus came third in the Y8 boys 100m and Sam came sixth in a large field of Y8 boys in the 800m, congratulations to all.  Well done also to Cameshia Young, Jade Goldsborough, Saraya Goring, Katie Sweet, Holly Akers, Eliza Pearson, Latima Chiranda and Jade Dearn who participated in this elite competition but unfortunately didn’t qualify on this occasion.

On Monday 9th June all Y7 students will take part in a sponsored walk/jog.  All money raised will go to the chosen charities supported by Sheffield Springs Academy, this year, the charities are; Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Macmillan Nurses and Oxfam.  Please encourage your child to take part and ensure that they bring their PE kit and a drink.  We would like to thank everyone for their support.

As Y11 approach their final examinations we have made adjustments to the times they are expected to be in the Academy.  Unless involved in examinations or intervention sessions in the afternoons they will be released for home study at 1pm.  Next week sees the very important mathematics examination and it is imperative that students continue to attend their scheduled maths lessons.

This year’s Y10 Enrichment Programme is now in the advance stages with the majority of students already allocated a place taking part in our school sections or working with companies within Sheffield.  Letters have been sent out to parents and carers with selections and consent forms that need to be signed and returned to the Academy as soon as possible.  If you would like any information or have any questions please contact the Academy.
