Principal’s Letter - Friday 5th December 2014

Dear Parents and Carers

On Thursday 27th November our Y7 “Time to Shine” evening took place.  Students were incredibly well supported by their parents and other family members.  Each class had a stall with their work on from Springs Board lessons and students eloquently discussed the progress they were making with their learning.  A special mention also has to be given to those students who confidently read out some of their extended writing to over 100 people.  It was a really positive event and was enjoyed by all.

Y11 are close to finishing their externally moderated examinations.  Students have conducted themselves very well through this stressful time and will receive their results from these exams on Thursday 15th January.  Y11 still have much work to do and must ensure they maintain 100% attendance ever week.

We would like to remind you of the importance of students attending school up until the end of term.  We need students to attend daily to ensure they make progress with their learning leading up to a well-deserved Christmas break.  All students will be expected to attend and work hard in lessons, including the last week of term.  We would like to thank parents in advance for their support.

The school has a number of teams competing in the Big Challenge enterprise competition this year. Last week was their first opportunity to sell to the public and three of the teams did really well – one of them even sold out.  The teams are “Jarful” (Brooklyn Moore and Danielle Brown), “Sweet Treats” (Victoria Priest and Caitlin Hawley) and “Cuddly Cushions” (Amber Cheetham, Paris Cheetham and Bethany Howard).  Many congratulations to the students on being very polite, smart and customer focussed.  If you are attending any of the after school events over the next couple of weeks please take the time to have a look at their products and support their efforts.

Sheffield Springs Academy had some special visitors on Tuesday afternoon when 3 players and 3 members of the coaching team from MK Dons Football Club visited the Academy prior to their game against Sheffield United that evening.  The players had a short training session with their lead Physiotherapist as part of a recovery programme on their way back to match fitness.  They were then involved in a question and answer session with some sports students.  The Manager Karl Robinson and Head of Coaching Richie Barker were taken on a tour of the Academy by Mr Heritage and were said to be impressed with the behaviour and engagement of the students they saw even though many expressed the wish that they would lose the match!

Congratulations to last week’s “Stars of the Week”.  The following students were presented with certificates for displaying particularly high levels of commitment to their learning and showing exemplary attitude:
