Dear Parents and Carers
Y10 students will take part in enrichment/work experience Monday 6th July until Thursday 16th July 2015. Students should attend the Academy in full uniform on Friday 17th July.
On Monday we welcomed Y6 students to the Academy. They have settled in extremely well and have made a great start to their secondary education. During the week students have experienced a variety of subjects. The aim is to ensure a smooth transition and alleviate any fears students and parents may have about secondary school prior to September. We are really proud of how they have settled in and look forward to the rest of this experience. If parents of students in Y6 have any questions please contact main reception who will ensure you are directed to the appropriate person.
We would like to thank students who have handled the recent warm weather in a very sensible and mature manner. We would also like to remind students that they should be bringing water with them daily and not sugary energy drinks. Students will have the opportunity to refill their bottles/containers at break and lunchtime.
Year 7 and Year 8
Students have been informed this week of the opportunity to select options of study within the performing arts curriculum area. Opposed to studying dance, drama and music during the next academic year, students will specialise in 1 or 2 of these distinct areas. The purpose of this is to allow students to make more progress throughout the year and prepare them better for GCSE study if chosen. A more detailed letter has been sent home to all parents of Y7 and Y8 students asking you to support your child through this process. The deadline for a return of options forms is Wednesday 8th July.
Last night the Y7 team we went back to Handsworth Grange to play in the rescheduled U12 rounders tournament. The weather was very different this time and made competing very difficult and very warm. Our students played three games of rounders carrying on with the great fielding they demonstrated previously. Unfortunately we didn’t score the rounders needed for a victory but they persevered until the end and were presented with a trophy for their hard work. Well done to all.
Last week saw our annual Sports Day and it was once again a fantastic event. Students were a credit to the Academy all day and competed with enthusiasm and integrity. There were a number of school records broken, as set out below. Congratulations to:
