News and Events at Sheffield Springs Academy

27 June 2014

Principal’s Letter - Friday 27th June 2014

Dear Parents and Carers

As you will be aware we actively discourage students from bringing into the Academy fizzy drinks, particularly sports drinks and drinks high in sugar content.  Research suggests that students who regularly use these sorts of drinks can suffer from erratic levels of concentration, lethargy and suffer from dental issues.  You may have seen recent publicity in the media regarding potential legislation surrounding drinks with a high sugar content, we would like to stress that Sheffield Springs Academy will continue to discourage students having sugary drinks and will confiscate them from students.  We would welcome your support in encouraging your son/daughter to drink water on a regular basis and not to drink drinks with high sugar content.

Reminder - facial piercings are not allowed in the Academy and compromise health and safety of students.  Any student refusing to remove facial piercings will be sanctioned accordingly.

Next week we will welcome Y6 students and their parents into the Academy for our learning journey events.  On Tuesday evening parents will meet in the hall for a welcome evening whilst students will meet their form tutors.  On Wednesday and Thursday Y6 students will participate in their learning journey day.  This was incredibly successful last year and we are sure Y6 students will value their experience next week and feel fully prepared for the start of their secondary education at Sheffield Springs Academy.

The Y7 and Y9 girl’s athletics team attended the Sheffield City finals on Wednesday this week after they qualified as being in the top 8 schools in the City.  The overall results have not been confirmed but there was lots of individual success. Well done to; Saraya Goring, Katie Sweet, Latima Chirinda, Maddie Linley, Eliza Pearson, Holly Akers, Caitlin Hawley, Victoria Priest, Keisha Carpenter and Charlotte Allen.

Last night our Y7 team played Chaucer School at Rounders.  After a nervous start they settled in and with some fantastic bowling and whole team fielding we started to gain on them. Unfortunately the final score was 15 – 10 to Chaucer but all girls played really well.
