Principal’s Letter - Friday 27th February 2015

Dear Parents and Carers

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back and trust you have had a safe and enjoyable break.

Year 11

We would like to congratulate all the Y11 students who attended half-term school last week.  On average over 70 students attended each day.

This week has seen the start of the pre public exams for Y11 students.  It is important that all Y11 students are on time, know their timetable and are fully prepared – good luck to all.

Year 10

Y10 parents’ evening will take place on Thursday 19th March (4pm – 6pm), the electronic booking system is now live.  To book or view appointments made, please use the following link http://www.sheffieldsprings-academy.org/Y10-Parents-Evening.  Complementary pie and peas will be available on the evening.

Events

Students are working hard towards the Academy production of “The Wizard of Oz” which takes place during the last week of this half term. Tickets are on sale from the Academy Box Office from Monday morning priced £4:00 and £2:00 for concessions (students, OAP's, unwaged).  There are over 40 students participating in the production this year.  Production runs; Tuesday 24th March (6pm), Wednesday 25th (4pm) and Thursday 26th (6pm).

Students have submitted entries for a poster design competition to promote the production. Congratulations to Bwe Soe who won the competition and well done to all those who submitted an entry.  Bwe's design will feature on the Academy website and around the building over the next few weeks.

Prior to half term our Y8 cheer squad represented the Academy at the Sheffield Schools Cheer competition.  After an enormous amount of hard work and great leadership by Y13 student Megan Pinder, the girls celebrated second place in their category.  The team will go on to represent the Academy at the South Yorkshire finals in March.

On Wednesday 25th January, 25 dance students from Y10, Y12 and Y13 visited Bradford Alhambra Theatre to watch Matthew Bourne’s “Edward Scissorhands”.   Students were amazed by the brilliant performance and contributed to the standing ovation at the end.

Performing Arts students have also represented the Academy this week at the “Great Big Dance Off” which is a national schools dance competition.  This northern heat took place at Leeds Town Hall allowing students to experience a fantastic performance setting.  Y8 and Y13 students have worked extremely hard and we wish them luck while we await the results of the competition.
