Principal’s Letter - Friday 15th May 2015

Dear Parents and Carers

Dates for your Diary

Friday 22nd May 2015 – last day of half term 5

Monday 1st June 2015 – first day of half term 6

Attendance

We would like to reiterate the importance of regular attendance to school.  If young people are to make progress with their learning they must attend regularly and on time.  A large number of students arrive on time to school and lessons and have attendance which meets our minimum expectation of 97%. Some students have 100% attendance since September which is exceptional!  Your support in ensuring that your child arrives for 8.30am each day is invaluable.  We will then ensure that they can arrive to tutor time on time and prepare them for their day ahead.

Year 11

Y11 have made a positive start to the very important GCSE examination series.  It is vital that they continue to attend session 6 and any additional support sessions.  Details of revision boosters taking place during the half term break will be sent home shortly.  We look forward to receiving your support in ensuring your son/daughter attends the sessions available to them.

Student Council

Over the past month we have been running student council elections in Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10.  Students who wanted to be elected put their names forward and prepared a video persuading the other students to vote for them.  Over 85% of students took the opportunity to take part in the democratic process and vote for the student they thought would best represent them.  The successful candidates are: Y7, Isabelle Donnelly and Carly Boldy; Y8, Reagan Bintcliffe and Jack Warwick; Y9, Daniel Grabowski and Amber Cheetham; Y10, Gabrielle Ndiomo and Lauren Fletcher.  On behalf of staff we would like to say a big “thank you” to every student who put themselves forward,  it takes courage to persuade people to vote for you and it shows you care about the future of your school.  Well done to all!

Ski Trip

As you are aware, we are arranging a ski trip to Austria for February 2016 half term break for students from Y7 to Y10.  Mr Draycott and Mrs Gowling will lead the trip departing on Friday 5th February 2016, returning on Friday 12th February 2016.  The cost of the trip is £643.00.  In order to secure a place on the trip, we require a non-refundable deposit of £50.00 along with a completed permission slip by Friday 22nd May 2015. Note that in the event of less than 44 students being interested, the trip cannot go ahead and we will refund the deposit.  A second deposit of £60.00 is payable by 10th July 2015. The remaining balance of £533.00 must be paid in full by Friday 20th November 2015.  Students cannot travel if the balance is not paid in full by this date.

Food Bank

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the process for utilising our food bank.  Should you or any member of the community need to access it, the procedures are very discrete.  Call or attend our main reception and ask to speak with Mrs Gowling, Mr Coombs or Mr Baker who will arrange a meeting at a convenient time.  Alternatively access can be gained via other agency workers (eg MAST) who will contact us directly on your behalf.

We continue to accept items for the food bank and donations can be made via our main reception/school shop.   We are also collecting bedding (good/clean condition), again donations can be made as set out above.
