Principal’s Letter - Friday 13th June 2014

Dear Parents and Carer,

We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that all students should arrive at the Academy wearing a blazer, shirt – buttoned up to the top, tie, black trousers or skirt (knee length) and black shoes.  Staff will continue to take a firm stance regarding our uniform policy, particularly in respect of footwear and as always welcome your support.

Today sees the majority of our Y11 sit their final examination.  We hope they enjoy their well-earned summer break and look forward to seeing them on Thursday 21st August at 10am when they will receive their results.

On Monday 16th June a group of Y10 students will be meeting with World War 2 veterans, just returned from Normandy.  The group of students have recently visited Belgium and some even traced their relatives graves at Ypres and the Somme.  After an informal question and answer session the veterans will join our students outside to plant some poppy seeds in remembrance of those who have fallen during the wars.  A full account together with photos will be available on our website.

This year’s Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 18th June.   Y9 and Y10 will participate 9am until 11am with Y7 and Y8 taking part 1pm until 3pm.  All students will need to attend and leave the Academy in full school uniform with full Academy PE kit being worn during the activities.  Students should ensure they attend with sun cream and refreshments.

On Tuesday 1st July all our Y7 students will take part in a writing workshop with visiting author Alan Durant. Alan Durant is a renowned author having won a selection of book awards. Using his own experiences and concerns, he started his career writing about teenage life. He now writes to entertain children.  He writes a variety of books from teenage thrillers to picture books to sport.  We have a selection of his books in the LRC available for students.  There will also be the opportunity to buy one of Alan Durant’s books for approximately £6.00.  Purchased books can be signed by Mr Durant.
