Principal’s Letter - Friday 13th December 2013

Dear Parents and Carers

This week we held our final Hollywood style awards evening for students in Y11.  These students were nominated for their achievements in the Academy since September.  The event was very well supported by parents and other family members.  The young people who were nominated were impeccably dressed and were well deserving of their awards.  The awards evenings will be returning in the summer term and we look forward to seeing more families at these positive events.

Wednesday evening we held our first Y7 Christmas disco. This was held in the Main Hall.  Many young people attended and danced for two hours to a number of songs from a number of eras! In addition, they were treated to hot dogs and fruit juice.  Santa Claus even took time out of his busy schedule to visit our students which created much excitement.  The evening was a lovely experience and students really enjoyed themselves.

I welcome your support in reminding your child to be extra vigilant now we are officially in the winter months.  Mornings and evenings are dark and road safety is more important than ever.  Please encourage your child to take time and care, cross where they can be seen and at busy times be patient.  Wherever possible they should use crossing facilities and as a suggested option, encourage them to wear something bright or light as outwear in order that they are very visible.

As a reminder, the Academy will be closed for an INSET day on Friday 20th December.  This will mean that students will break up for the end of term on Thursday 19th December.  Our Main Reception will be open until 12noon on Friday 20th December to deal with any enquiries, following this, the Academy will re-open to students at 8am on Monday 6th January.

On Monday 16th December parents/carers of Y10, Y11 and Sixth Form are invited to attend a “Parent Forum”, this will take place at 5:15pm in the Main Hall.  This is an opportunity for you to meet with my team to discuss the Academy.
